Santiago de Chile, November 18 (RHC)-- This Sunday, November 21st, Chile will hold its general elections in the midst of a complicated situation due to the state of emergency decreed in several regions of the country, where they will vote for the president of the republic and senators, deputies and regional councilors.

For the election of the president there will be a ballot with seven candidates:  Sebastián Sichel, from Pacto Chile Vamos; Gabriel Boric, from Apruebo Dignidad; José Antonio Kast, from Partido Republicano de Chile; Franco Parisi, from Partido de la Gente; Marco Enríquez-Ominami, from Progresistas de Chile; Yasna Provoste, from Partido Demócrata Cristiano; and Eduardo Artés, from Partido Unión Patriótica.

According to the country's Constitution, to become president, one of the candidates must obtain an absolute majority of the votes.  Otherwise, the two candidates with the highest number of votes will go to a run-off election, scheduled for December 19th.

In addition, the members of the National Congress will be elected, where the Chamber of Deputies will be completely renewed after its four-year term. The Senate, unlike the Chamber of Deputies, will renew only part of its members, since the term of office is eight years.
