Santiago de Chile, June 6 (RHC)-- Chilean President Gabriel Boric insisted Monday that the IX Summit of the Americas should not exclude any nation and criticized the U.S. government for leaving out Cuba, Nicaragua and Venezuela.

Boric, on a visit to Canada before going to the city of Los Angeles, where the hemispheric meeting is taking place, pointed out that Washington's policy is wrong and that historically "it has not yielded results", reported El Mostrador newspaper.

At a press conference in Ottawa, the president said that the exclusion of the aforementioned countries will be one of the issues to be addressed at the meeting, whose high-level segment is scheduled for June 9 and 10.

"We go (...) with the conviction that it is the multilateral dialogue spaces that will allow us to build better relations between our countries, where nobody is going to save himself, but we have to unite to have better developments in our nations", said Boric, quoted by the press.

Washington unilaterally excluded the aforementioned countries from the continental meeting under the argument of respect for human rights, a decision that generated questions and the rejection of governments, political and social leaders, and political articulation organizations such as the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States.

The Chilean President's visit to Canada is part of an agenda that includes an official meeting with the Prime Minister of that country, Justin Trudeau, and the signing of several cooperation agreements on environmental issues, gender equality and trade.
