Miami, October 4 (RHC)-- In the United States, the death toll from Hurricane Ian has reached at least 100 and is continuing to grow amid a massive search and rescue effort in Florida.  About half of the deaths occurred in Lee County, which waited until a day before the storm to issue a mandatory evacuation order.

According to reports from the U.S. state of Florida, nearly 530,000 homes, businesses and other customers in the state still did not have power as of Monday evening, according to PowerOutage.us.  Power may not be restored on Fort Myers Beach for 30 days due its electrical infrastructure being destroyed, Lee County Manager Roger Desjarlais said.

Many residents are reportedly without clean tap water, with well over 100 boil-water advisories in places around the state, according to Florida Health Department data.
