Vienna, July 5 (RHC)-- The Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) inaugurated this Wednesday the Eighth International Seminar with the aim of discussing the challenges that the fight against global warming represents for the oil industry.

The two-day event is being attended by ministers from OPEC member countries and other oil producing and consuming nations, as well as representatives from international organizations, oil and energy companies, academics and other industry experts.

Seminar attendees will address issues and challenges facing the oil industry, including energy transition, energy poverty alleviation, energy security, climate change policies, investment, technology and innovation.

The eighth international seminar will develop the theme "Towards a Sustainable and Inclusive Energy Transition" through high-level roundtables, ministerial sessions and exhibitions.  Participants at the OPEC seminar include Simon Stiell, head of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change; Kadri Simon, European Commissioner for Energy; and Francesco La Camera, Director General of the International Renewable Energy Agency (Irena), among others.

The opening session of the international seminar was addressed by Saudi Arabia's Minister of Petroleum, Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman.

The OPEC International Seminar was established in 2001 and provides a platform for high-level discussions and cooperation on key issues in the oil and energy industry.
