Repression against protests in front of the Peruvian Congress

Lima, July 28 (RHC)-- Peruvian police agents repressed protesters who were carrying out a sit-in against the Congress, beating a number of demonstrators.

The popular rejection to the election of the new Board of Directors of the Peruvian Congress derived in the streets in a protest against the Government of Dina Boluarte, when dozens of demonstrators were repressed by the police in the vicinity of the parliament.

The demonstrators gathered in repudiation of the planned election of the new Board of Directors of the Congress, gathered in front of the seat of the Legislative power.  Delegations from different regions have especially remembered more than 49 people killed by the forces of law and order.

"Urgent, urgent.  Let's close the Congress," "The blood spilled will never be forgotten" and "the people united will never be defeated," were some of the proclamations that were heard at the doors of the Legislative, heavily guarded by the National Police of Peru (PNP).

The demonstrators carried Peruvian flags and some whipala, used by indigenous peoples, and there were also some signs of support for former President Pedro Castillo.
