Caracas, October 9 (RHC)-- The Venezuelan government has issued a statement rejecting Washington's attitude in defense of fugitive Juan Guaidó, who is hiding from justice in the United States.

"The Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela categorically rejects the recent statements coming from the U.S. State Department in defense of the fugitive from Venezuelan justice, Juan Guaidó, as they constitute an attempt to hinder the free performance of the national Public Powers," reads the text issued by Foreign Minister Yván Gil.

The document recalls that Guaidó is being investigated for premeditated and negligent handling of assets belonging to the company Petróleos de Venezuela S.A. (Pdvsa).

The document highlights that these facts were corroborated by a U.S. court.   "The fact has been corroborated by the U.S. system itself, through the recent revelations of a court of the state of Delaware in the U.S., which has pointed out the personal use, by the defendant, of more than 19 billion dollars," he said.

The Venezuelan foreign minister called on the United States to comply with what has been established and condemned any attempt to minimize corruption for political causes.  "Handing over the accused to the Venezuelan authorities so that his judicial process may be followed with all the guarantees of the law, would be the best demonstration that the U.S. is truly committed to the fight against corruption", he concluded.
