Lima, September 23 (Andina-RHC) –- The United Nations has praised Peru for its efforts to empower women through the provision of financial help and entrepreneurial training, according to Peruvian First Lady Nadine Heredia.
Heredia added that nearly one million Peruvian women are benefiting from government-run social programs such as Juntos (Together) and Pension 65 and said that roughly 400,000 have debit cards and receive entrepreneurship training through financial literacy classes.
Nadine Heredia added: “This ongoing process has generated change on the stage of social and political representation by empowering women citizens living in rural areas across the nation’s inner regions”.
Likewise, the Peruvian First Lady went on to underline the rising international spotlight on the increasing role Peruvian women are playing in the life of the nation and in securing its future through their commitment to their families, work and community.
Later, high-level officials from the Humala administration exchanged experiences of initiatives in tackling gender-based violence, improving access to health care for women and increasing women’s political and economic participation in Peru at the Equal Futures Partnership event, in New York.
The event, which was promoted by the United States government for third year, was held at New York’s Waldorf Astoria within the framework of the ongoing UN gathering.
