Brasilia, March 16 (RHC)-- The president of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, warned Friday that democracy in the world is in danger because of "fascism, because of Nazism, because of the rabid, ignorant, brute extreme right, which offends people."

During his speech at the announcement ceremony for the reconstruction of the Gaucho municipalities, in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, the president cited as examples of the right-wing that put democracy at risk the former president of Brazil, Jair Bolsonaro and the current dignitary of Argentina, Javier Milei.

"Democracy is at risk (...) Who is against the system today, who criticizes everything, is Milei in Argentina.  He even wants the Central Bank to close.  He wants to cut everything with a buzz-saw."

As for Bolsonaro, Lula noted that although he did not want to mention him in his speech, it is known that "to this day he does not recognize his defeat.  The other day, he said: "I don't know how I lost."  He does not know how he lost because he spent almost 300 million reais and thought he was not going to go to jail."

In this regard, the president warned that "politics is full of hatred that surely most of those who do politics here have never experienced," and pointed out that peaceful coexistence between adversaries has ended in many countries.

Prior to the Brazilian head of state's statements, it was learned that former high-ranking officers Marco Freire Gomes and Carlos Almeida Baptista Jr. of the Army and Air Force, respectively, accused Bolsonaro of undertaking a coup d'état against the president-elect in October 2022.

Bolsonaro did not recognize the results of the elections, so his followers tried to take by force the headquarters of the Three Powers in Brasilia on January 8, 2023.
