Tegucigalpa, September 6 (RHC)-- "We are going to defend our democracy, our independence, our sovereignty and our dignity.  It is forbidden to forget that we are resistance," said Honduran President Xiomara Castro.

The Honduran leader confirmed that her government belongs to the people and that despite the complex circumstances that the country is going through due to U.S. interference, she will continue to defend its will.

During the inauguration of a synthetic soccer field in the popular neighborhood of La Villanueva, the Central American leader stated that she will continue working to keep her word during the presidential campaign and not fail the Honduran people.

"Today we are facing a crisis, but be assured that I am willing to continue defending the will of the people.  Everything we do is to repel these attacks," she said.

Xiomara Castro affirmed that the popular strength, organization and unity of the Libre party will go forward.  Referring to the coup attempts conceived by the United States and the local oligarchy, she assured that "when the people wake up with conscience and knows perfectly well what is the path to refound the country and conduct itself with sovereignty and independence, these ominous birds appear to stop the actions that the people are carrying out today."

"A member of our party made a deplorable mistake.  Without informing the coordinator, the candidate and the party, he attended a meeting behind our backs.  We deplore any action or negotiation between politicians and drug traffickers.  We do not accept it and we will not allow it," the Honduran President made clear.

"You know perfectly well the career of Mel Zelaya, impeccable for many years.  No one can point to him.  He built a history alongside the people and will always be with them, fighting for their demands," she confirmed while the following slogan could be heard from the audience: "Mel, amigo... el pueblo esta contigo."  "Mel, friend... the people are with you."

The president pointed out that her government is advancing in the application of social programs to defend the rights of the most humble sectors.

She emphasized that they received a country in rags.  "We always said that this government would begin a transition from dictatorship to democracy.  We are building a different country," she said.  The Honduran president explained that they continue to organize the state's finances and today debts that were contracted during past mandates are being paid.  "We are giving the mayors the budgets that correspond and without extorting them, as happened before," she affirmed.

"We are building infrastructure, highways, productive roads so that the peasant can harvest his/her crops, eight hospitals (five neonatal).  We are reaching places where we have never reached before," she pointed out.

And the Honduran president added: "We are in this La Villanueva neighborhood bringing hope to our children and youth.  We are building fields for them so that they can use their free time to play sports.  We support the poorest communities in our country, with care programs and rural funds so that they can promote entrepreneurship and support their families."

Among other social programs, she mentioned the extension of scholarships, free tuition, school meals, as well as the technological bonus so that the farmer can sow the land and contribute to the food security of the Honduran family.  The Honduran leader recalled that low-interest loans are given and a subsidy of ten lempiras is applied to fuel.

"We are subsidizing energy to those people who consume less than 150 kw.  We are making an investment in energy and little by little we are recovering the National Electric Energy Company, which was divided and privatized during neoliberal governments."

"While other rulers privatized, we are recovering the State's assets that belong to the Honduran people.  That is the difference.  My Government is the government of the people," she emphasized.
