Beirut, November 27 (RHC)-- Lebanon says it is filing a complaint with the United Nations Security Council against Israel's "continued and deliberate" targeting of the Lebanese Army, calling on the member states to condemn the attacks as a flagrant violation of international law.

In a statement on Tuesday, the foreign ministry said it has instructed the Permanent Mission of Lebanon to the United Nations in New York to submit a formal complaint to the UN Security Council in response to Israel’s ongoing aggression which has escalated significantly in recent weeks.

The ministry went on to say that the complaint detailed a series of Israeli attacks on army personnel from November 17 to 24 in the southern Lebanese towns of Marjeyoun, Sarafand, al-Amiriya as well as the Borj el Mlouk–Qlayaa road, which killed 10 soldiers and wounded 35 others.

It also said the assaults “constitute a clear message from Israel rejecting any initiatives for a solution, and its insistence on military escalation instead of diplomacy.”

The complaint also emphasized that these attacks undermined international efforts to broker a ceasefire and destabilize ongoing mediation initiatives aimed at restoring calm to the region.

Lebanon further urged Security Council member states to condemn Israel’s repeated violations, labeling them as “a flagrant violation of international law, the UN Charter, and international resolutions, particularly Resolution 1701,” which ended the 33-day-long Israeli military onslaught on the country in the summer of 2006.

Israel has been targeting Lebanon since October 2023, when the regime launched a genocidal war on the Gaza Strip.

Since September 23, the Israeli army has been launching unprecedented air attacks on Lebanon in a dangerous escalation with Hezbollah resistance movement.  In recent weeks, Israel has mounted its bloody aerial assaults on Lebanon, causing the displacement of at least 1.3 million people, more than a fifth of the country’s population.

At least 3,768 people have been killed and 15,699 others injured in Israeli air raids on Lebanon since early October 2023, according to Lebanon’s Public Health Ministry.

Over the same period, the Zionist regime has been waging a genocidal war on the Gaza Strip, killing at least 42,289 Palestinians, mostly women and children, and injuring 98,684 others.

Hezbollah has launched retaliatory attacks on Israeli targets and vowed to keep fighting until the regime ends its aggression against Lebanon and Gaza.
