Caracas, April 14 (RHC)-- After learning the results of the second round of elections in Ecuador, the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC Social) issued an international statement to express its support for the candidate of the Citizens' Revolution movement, Luisa González.

“From the International Collective of CELAC Social, and in our capacity as participants and observers of the electoral process in Ecuador, we raise our voice to strongly denounce the serious attack on the popular will committed during the recent presidential elections,” the organization stated in the statement.

CELAC Social stated that “what has happened in this country is not just a case of administrative irregularities: it is a systematic setup, aimed at imposing by force an authoritarian project led by Daniel Noboa, whose rise to power lacks democratic legitimacy.”

“The signs of fraud are multiple and alarming: last-minute alterations at polling places, arbitrary use of state resources for clientelist purposes, deliberate exclusion of international oversight bodies, and the unacceptable suspension of voting by thousands of Ecuadorians abroad,” he emphasized.

The body also stated that these actions establish a clear pattern of institutional manipulation that transforms this procedure into a mockery of the most basic foundations of popular sovereignty.

“Added to this is the imposition of a state of emergency selectively targeting historically combative territories, which demonstrates that this government does not seek support from the people, but rather from repression,” he emphasized.

Likewise, it reported that “Noboa, far from governing for the majority, has deployed a power structure sustained by privatized security apparatuses and alliances with foreign interests that pursue a model of control and fear.”

“We warn that this anti-democratic operation was carefully planned, with months of preparation, taking advantage of the state machinery to pave the way for an authoritarian regime that responds more to economic elites and foreign agendas than to the Ecuadorian people,” it added.

Finally, CELAC Social stated that “in light of this scenario,” they make “an urgent call for organization, active resistance, and popular mobilization.  It is in the streets, in the neighborhoods, in the communities, and in every corner of the struggle that the defense of democracy must be sustained.  The solidarity of the peoples of Our America and the world is more necessary today than ever.”
