Nairobi, December 3 (RHC-PL) -- Kenya has declared war on the Al Shabab extremists after the slaughter perpetrated by the group in the northeast of the country, where 36 people were killed, said the President Uhuru Kenyatta in a TV address.

Following the events, President Kenyatta removed the Interior Minister and the chief of the Kenyan police for conducting an inefficient work against the Islamic militia.

Tuesday in Korome, about 15 kilometers from the town of Mandera, on the border with Somalia, at least 36 non-Muslim workers were killed during a Al Shabab raid, confirmed Kenyatta.

The incident occurred in the same area where Al Shabab kidnapped last week a bus and killed 28 non-Muslim passengers, recalled the president.

The secretary of state of President Uhuru Kenyatta, Joseph Kinyua, invited non-Muslims to abandon the region of Mandera, whose population is mostly Kenyan Muslim and of Somali origin.
