Abuja, September 12 (RHC)-- A deadly explosion has reportedly rocked a refugee camp in Nigeria's volatile northeastern state of Adamawa. Reports say the explosion was caused by an improvised explosive device (IED) left by the tents of the camp, which houses those displaced due to the terror activities by Takfiri Boko Haram militants.

There are conflicting reports about the death toll. The Red Cross puts the figures at three dead and nine injured, but Adamawa state police spokesman Othman Abubakar said the blast claimed two lives and injured seven others.

This while Suleiman Mohammed, the director of response, relief and rehabilitation at the Adamawa State Emergency Management Agency (ADSEMA), said five were killed and 20 injured. Reports say there were also children among the victims.

Earlier this year, hundreds of women and children, who had been held hostage by Boko Haram, were brought to the camp after they were rescued by the military. Security has been tight in the camp since then.
