New York, September 21 (RHC)-- The Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) has denounced the Israeli military's assaults on the al-Aqsa Mosque compound in the occupied Jerusalem over the past few days, urging global efforts to help end the raids.

In a statement, issued at the end of the NAM's monthly meeting over the weekend in New York, the movement's member states expressed deep concern over Israel's illegal measures and policies. Participants at the meeting, which was chaired by Iran's Ambassador to the United Nations Gholam Ali Khoshrou, said the Israeli regime's moves pose a threat to international peace and security. Iran holds the rotating presidency of the Non-Aligned Movement.

The statement also called on the international community, particularly the UN Security Council, to fulfill their duties towards occupiers' acts of aggression. On behalf of the NAM states, Khoshrou, along with representatives of the Arab League troika and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) held a meeting with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon and discussed the recent Israeli raids on the al-Aqsa Mosque.

During the meeting, the OIC and NAM representatives called on the UN chief to help put an end to the Tel Aviv regime's attacks.

Israeli settlers and troopers have been attacking worshipers at the site of the al-Aqsa Mosque since September 13, following the deployment of Israeli forces to the area for the Jewish Rosh Hashanah New Year holiday.
