Panama City, October 29 (teleSUR-RHC)-- Eleven groups in the teachers' union confederation (UNEP) reiterated on Wednesday they will maintain the strike they started on Monday. The teachers are demanding “decent schools,” meaning better infrastructure and equipment.

UNEP leader and teacher Luis Lopez said they were waiting for a meeting with President Juan Carlos Varela, where they hope to demand again that he address the issue and allocate a higher budget to the Ministry of Education. In his opinion, about 90 percent of school centers are in bad shape.

Five groups of the UNEP abstained from voting in support of the march.

On Tuesday, the school where the cement floor collapsed in Juan Diaz, a north-eastern suburb of the capital, announced students will finish the year via modules, fearing that low quality infrastructure could be dangerous.
