Caracas, November 2 (teleSUR-RHC)-- Social movements, intellectuals, and Latin American and Caribbean governments have voiced their solidarity with Venezuela against U.S. threats and intervention in the South American country. The expressions of support come as President Nicolas Maduro condemned renewed U.S. aggression on Venezuela ahead of the country’s December 6th parliamentary elections. President Maduro rejected statements made on Thursday by U.S. Southern Command General John Kelly that Venezuelan families are living in deprivation and condemned Kelly’s willingness to intervene militarily as an interventionist threat. But despite potential aggression from the U.S., communities and movements in Latin America and beyond have confirmed they stand with Venezuela. In Peru and Bolivia, for example, activists have launched campaigns to raise awareness about the implications of U.S. aggressions in the region and state support for Venezuelan people and President Maduro’s government. “Latin American people and the Bolivian people are firm in supporting the Bolivarian Revolution and that ‘Patria Grande’ may continue,” Bolivian young activist Gabriel Villalba told teleSUR, referring to the regional integration process in Latin America that roughly translates to “Great Homeland.” In Central America, El Salvador’s governing FMLN party also expressed solidarity with Venezuela in the face of “U.S. accusations and lies” against the South American country. Beyond Latin America, other communities have also been standing up in support of Venezuela. From Lebanon, Syrian, Palestinian, and Lebanese youth rallied in support of Venezuelan democracy. Events have also recently been held in Argentina, Colombia, Brazil, Dominican Republic, Switzerland, and more in solidarity with Venezuela. Almost 20 million Venezuelans are registered to vote to elect 167 lawmakers in the country’s parliamentary elections on December 6th.
