Bogota, December 16 (PL-RHC)-- Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos has reiterated his optimism about the peace talks after ensuring that the negotiators meeting in Havana were never before so close to reaching a final agreement.

On his Twitter account, the president celebrated the pact on victims of the internal conflict, announced in Cuba by government representatives and spokesmen of the insurgent Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia-People's Army (FARC-EP).

Peace is close, stated the leader shortly after the ceremony in Havana to sign the agreement, which provides measures to guarantee the right of the victims to know the truth, and provide justice, reparation and guarantees of no repetition.

Considered one of the most controversial issues on the agenda originally scheduled between the two delegations, the agreement includes the establishment of the Special Court for Peace.

This mechanism sets the creation of independent courts to investigate, prosecute and punish the actors of the longstanding war. These courts will guarantee that there is no impunity for crimes against humanity, but provides benefits such as pardons and amnesties in cases of political offenses.
