Port-Au-Prince, February 11 (RHC-Telesur)-- The Haitian National Assembly has announced that it will elect a transitional president on Sunday, February 14th, exactly one week after former President Michel Martelly officially stepped down from office, local legislative sources announced Wednesday.

On Tuesday, a 15-member legislative commission was created in order to process the registration of presidential candidates.

As stipulated by the country's Constitution, the transitional president will not be allowed to stay in power more than 120 days after he takes office.

Before stepping down, Martelly signed an agreement with the heads of the two chambers of parliament under which presidential elections will be held on April 24th.
