Santiago de Cuba, December 6 (RHC)-- Residents of Santiago de Cuba and visitors to the eastern Cuban province from other Cuban regions and around the world continue rendering tribute to the historic leader of the Cuban revolution, the late Fidel Castro, in Santa Ifigenia Cemetery, where his ashes were placed to rest in a solemn, private ceremony on Sunday morning, December 4th.
As of Sunday afternoon, long lines of people have formed, many of them with flowers in hand, waiting for an opportunity to silently pass by Fidel's final resting place.
The Cemetery is open to visitors from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Among Monday's visitors to the site, were students and professors from the Rafael María de Mendive High School, where Fidel completed his elementary studies, Nicaraguan Ambassador Luis Cabrera and representatives from other diplomatic missions accredited in Cuba.
The changing of the guard takes place every 30 minutes at Fidel's tomb and that of National Hero José Martí, musically accompanied by "Elegía a José Martí" written by revolutionary commander, the late Juan Almeida Bosque.
