Neighborhood Debates in Lead-up to Elections

Havana, November 22 (RHC-Granma)-- A neighborhood debate took place yesterday in the Havana municipality of 10 de Octubre on the occasion of elections of Municipal Assemblies of People's Power, set to take place this coming Sunday, November 26th.

Among the topics of discussion during the meeting, which also included a tribute to Fidel Castro for the upcoming first anniversary of his death, were the role of youth, popular participation in safeguarding the Revolution's conquests, and the importance of electing the people's representatives.

According to University of Havana professor Luis Toledo Sande, democracy in Cuba needs perfecting but it is real and the people have the responsibility to make it better, collectively making the changes everyone wants in society.

Democracy must be built every day, he said, with each person doing their part and asserting our rights, continuing the work that Fidel began.

The National Coordinator of the Committees for the Defense of the Revolution, CDR, Carlos Rafael Miranda, commented on the candidates nominated as delegates to Municipal Assemblies of People's Power, revolutionaries ready to serve their neighborhoods, emphasizing that Cubans decide who they will vote for without politicking or false promises.
