Bratislava, December 12 (RHC)-- The Director of the Health Ministry of Slovakia, Boris Bánovsky praised the effectiveness of the Cuban medication Heberprot-P for the treatment of diabetic foot ulcers.
The Cuban drug has been administered to Slovak patients with remarkably good results, nearly 100 percent success, the Slovak health official said.
The 1st Slovakia-Cuba Technical Committee held sessions Monday in Havana with experts from both countries analyzing the results of the administration of Heberprot-P to patients in three specialized health centers in the European nation.
The Cuban injectable medication accelerates the healing of lesions, thus considerably reducing the risk of lower limb amputation in diabetic patients.
Slovakia was the first country of the European Union to register Heberprot-P nearly a decade ago.
Based on the results obtained, Slovak health authorities have said the time has now come to extend the use of the Cuban medication to reach out to the largest possible number of the more than 8000 diabetic patients in the EU country.
The only one of its kind in the world, Heberprot-P received the Gold Medal awarded by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and offers a novel therapeutic solution to a condition which previously lacked effective treatments.
