Havana, January 26 (RHC)-- The Cuban Country Program (2015-2018) of the World Food Program (WFP) benefits more than 900 thousand residents in 43 municipalities of six Cuban provinces.

A document released by the World Food Program focuses on cooperation projects implemented by the international organization in the Caribbean state, mostly in the eastern Cuban region.

The documents acknowledges that Cuba has largely eradicated hunger and poverty through comprehensive social protection programs.

It further reads:“This country program emphasizes capacity development and augmentation, using targeted transfers to meet food and nutrition needs and to strengthen food-related social safety nets. It will support national and local authorities in shifting to more sustainable and targeted social protection systems.”

Cooperation relations between the World Food Program and Cuba began in 1963 in the form of assistance in the wake of devastation caused by Hurricane Flora.

So far, the UN agency has conducted 20 such emergency operations on the island and eight development projects, which combined surpass 297 million dollars.
