Santiago de Cuba, July 23 (RHC)-- More than 300 foreigners, Cuba friends and members of solidarity brigades from around the world, will attend the main rally in eastern Santiago de Cuba on July 26th -- National Rebellion Day.

These include the members of the Puerto Rican Juan Rius Rivera Solidarity Brigade, the José Martí European Brigade, which this time has brought in activists from Spain, Greece, Ireland, Germany, Denmark, Sweden and Russia, and the “Gino Donne” brigade from Italy.  Students from other countries who are currently studying in Cuban universities will be attending the rally, as well.

This year's commemoration marks the 65th anniversary of the attack on the Moncada and Carlos Manuel de Céspedes garrisons, on July 26th, 1953, by a group of revolutionaries led by then young lawyer Fidel Castro.

According to sources of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP) in Santiago de Cuba, after their participation in the main rally commemorating the date, the foreign solidarity activists will form what ICAP has called the Caravan from Moncada  to the Sierra Maestra Mountains, as they will travel by bus to the  municipality of Segundo Frente Oriental (Eastern Second Front), from where Raúl Castro commanded a front of the guerrilla army in March 1958.

Other activities of the solidarity activists in Santiago de Cuba include a visit to “Santa Ifigenia” cemetery, where they will pay tribute to National Hero José Martí, Revolution leader Fidel Castro, and to all other Cuban martyrs and heroes, whose remains are kept there, as well as their participation in the traditional carnival of Santiago de Cuba -- considered the country's most colorful and delightful carnival.
