Havana, August 11 (RHC)-- The Cuban Movement for Peace and Sovereignty of the Peoples (MOVPAZ) has ratified its position in favor of the elimination of foreign military bases anywhere in the world, especially in Latin America.

"We fight for the suppression of military bases because there are more than 800 of them in 144 nations," Silvio Platero, MOVPAZ president, told Prensa Latina News Agency.

The activist condemned Washington's desire to dominate independent and free spaces of the world with its military presence and considered that attitude a threat to peace.

Latin America and the Caribbean is the first zone of peace that has existed in the world with the full support of 33 heads of state, said Platero when referring to the initiative established at the 2nd CELAC Summit held in Havana in 2014.

According to Platero, another important aspect in the work of MOVPAZ is the demand for total elimination of nuclear weapons.  MOVPAZ defends justice, democracy, social progress, preservation of the environment, development and cooperation among the peoples.

Peaceful coexistence, complete nuclear disarmament and eradication of foreign military bases also stand out among its working lines.
