Havana, January 22 (RHC)-- Cuban Deputy Foreign Minister Marcelino Medina has called to strengthen regional integration mechanisms, in response to aggression by the Organization of American States (OAS) against progressive governments in the area.
Medina urged the expansion of work with the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States, in defense of diversity within unity, and recalled that the OAS continues to be used by the United States government to interfere in countries whose governments refuse to Washington’s dictates. He also condemned U.S. imperialist policy through its recent attempts to reimpose the Monroe Doctrine, the use of non-conventional warfare and political and legal persecution of leftist leaders in the region.
In order to confront such threats, Medina called to continue strengthening political and social integration mechanisms such as the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America and Sao Paulo Forum. He also highlighted the importance of the proclamation of Latin America and the Caribbean as a Zone of Peace, toward building regional unity and stability.
