Havana, April 25 (RHC)-- At the closing session of the XXI Congress of the CTC, delegates approved a declaration of international solidarity, in line with the global situation of workers, and taking into consideration U.S. imperialism's attacks against progressive nations in Latin American and around the world.

The text refers to the orientation of the Cuban trade union movement, its support for the just causes of the world and the struggle for the defense of sovereignty, self-determination and human rights, such as employment, education and social security.  The document recognizes unity as a principle to articulate forces in favor of integration, based on collaboration and solidarity, that promotes the economic and social development of nations. It also condemns the Helms-Burton Act as "an expression of the annexationist and interventionist attempts against Cuba" and calls for the support of friendly organizations to denounce its extraterritorial nature, and especially Title III.

The declaration also calls for labor unions around the world to demand the elimination of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed against Cuba, and the return of the illegally occupied territory in Guantanamo, used as a naval base by the United States.

The nearly 1,200 delegates to the event approved the declaration, vowing to intensify the work of trade union organizations in the struggle against imperialism and for world peace.
