Caibarien, October 12 (RHC)— US cardiologist Matthew W. Martinez says Washington´s blockade on Cuba is anachronistic and must cease.

Martinez participated this week in the International Congress of Cardiology, Cardiovilla 2019, which took place in Santa Maria Key.

In statements to the press quoted by Granma newspaper, he added that there should be no barriers to collaboration between scientists from both nations.

The doctor, who is a member of the American College of Cardiology and works at the Morristown Medical Center in New Jersey, said that one must learn from Cuban medicine, which besides being free, achieves much for the health of its inhabitants amid significant limitations.

"Cuba's results in the field of cardiology are fabulous, and the world's scientific community should know them," said Dr. Martinez, who praised the quality of Cuban specialists who can attend to everyone who needs it.

He also said that it is essential to come to Cuba to events like this, to share and exchange everyday experiences in the field of Cardiology, because the populations of both countries have the same problems with cholesterol, arrhythmias, the damage caused to smokers and other pathologies that influence the heart.
