Havana, November 12 (RHC)-- Carlos Fernández de Cossío, Director-General for the U.S. at the Foreign Ministry, assured Tuesday that Cuba is fully committed to the proper functioning of the respective embassies in both countries, although it will act reciprocally concerning actions of the State Department.

In remarks to the Cubadebate website, Fernández said that the United States Embassy has been denying visas or delaying the granting of permits for Cuban diplomatic officials at the embassy in Washington, an issue that damages the functioning of the two diplomatic missions and that obliges Cuba to act reciprocally.

The official considered that an influential segment within the U.S. government, made up of several anti-Cuban sectors, has set out to undo everything that was advanced under Barack Obama's administration.

"We know that there are those within the U.S. government or people with influence within it who have promoted the rupture. Some of the most extreme anti-Cuban elements have said publicly and explicitly that they seek the closure of embassies," Fernandez said.

The diplomat told Cubadebate that it is logical to expect new measures to be adopted against Cuba and against what remains of bilateral relations.

He added that more actions should be expected aimed at harming the population, damaging the daily life of the Cubans, depressing their standard of living, and making it more uncomfortable, taking into account that this has been the evident sense of the measures taken throughout this year by the Trump Administration.
