Havana, December 14 (RHC)-- Japanese lawmaker Abe Tomoko blasted the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed and maintained by the United States against Cuba for nearly 60 years, and she condemned moves by the current US administration of President Donald Trump to further tighten it.

During a meeting with Cuban Ambassador to Japan Miguel Ángel Ramírez, Abe Tomoko, a member of the Constitutional Democratic Party, recalled her personal long-standing relation of friendship and solidarity with Cuba. She said that the fight against Washington’s blockade of Cuba is also a fight for world peace.

The Japanese lawmaker, a pediatrician by profession, expressed admiration for Cuba’s achievements in the fields of healthcare and education and the country’s protection of children’s rights.

The Cuban ambassador thanked the Japanese lawmaker for her personal contribution to the promotion of friendship and cooperative relations between Japan and Cuba. He mentioned specifically the musical concert she organized in her electoral district to raise funds for reconstruction works in Havana, in the wake of the devastating tornado that hit the Cuban capital in January 2018.
