The move implies the municipality´s returning to quarantine measures, while the rest of the province was returned to Phase I of recovery, in view of the increase and spread of cases in that central territory.

The president evaluated the situation through videoconference with local authorities.

“People from Ciego de Avila are dying.  Today, there is a deceased from Ciego de Avila; there was also a deceased from Ciego de Avila in the last few days. In other words, look at what the indiscipline and the situation is leading to. It is causing us deaths,” he said.

Diaz-Canel indicated that under the current conditions, local authorities have to work with great intensity and accuracy. With 57 cases in the last fifteen days and three local transmission events, the province is going through a complex scenario, after having contained the contagion for several months.

The president warned about the capacities enabled for isolation centers because, at the rate of confirmed cases per day and he urged authorities to work for adequate isolation that allows cutting the spread of the disease.  transmission.

He commented that experience says in these cases, there are essential elements: isolation and physical distance and that there is not much mobility. He added that people could not be allowed to enter or leave the municipality of Ciego de Avila, to avoid further dispersion of positive cases.
