Diego Maradona and Fidel Castro

Havana, November 25 (RHC)--Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel said that November 25 is doubly painful due to the coincidence in dates of the passing of the leader of the Revolution, Fidel Castro, and soccer star Diego Maradona.

Four years without the physical presence of Fidel, and today Maradona is leaving us'. the President wrote on Twitter.

Fidel Castro and Maradona are 'friends forever', and sources of inspiration every day, he said.

On this social media,  Díaz-Canel assured that the death of the unique player is sad news.

Cuba will always remember him as the sincere friend and virtuoso footballer that he was," the President wrote, and conveyed his condolences to those close to the genius of the soccer ball.

The star died Wednesday after a cardiac arrest. He was 60. His passing has shocked the world.

Diego Maradona had a strong friendship with the Caribbean island and Fidel Castro, who died on November 25, 2016.

In 1987, they met when Prensa Latina invited the player to receive in Cuba the award for the best Latin American sportsman of the year.
