Bruno Rodriguez addresses Reencounter with Mother Earth event organized by Bolivia.

Havana, April 24 (RHC)-- Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez affirmed Friday that his country is making tireless efforts to fight against climate change, despite the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by the United States.

Speaking at the Reencounter with Mother Earth, an event convened by Bolivia, the head of Cuban diplomacy explained that the U.S. siege is the main obstacle to accessing external financing and advanced climate technologies to achieve sustainable development.

He detailed that since 2017 this nation has had a State Plan for Confronting Climate Change, responding to national goals and international commitments in that area.

As part of the Plan, the country aims to achieve by 2030 an energy matrix with 24 percent of electricity generation from renewable sources and reduce by half the use of fossil fuels in land vehicles.

Increasing forest cover to 33 percent is another of the objectives set. They have the backing of a Constitution that explicitly enshrines the need to protect and conserve the environment.

The event held in Bolivia takes place every year in the context of International Mother Earth Day (April 22), and on this occasion had as its central theme the promotion of the need to advance in international commitments
