Havana, June 16 (RHC)-The Forecasting Center of the Institute of Meteorology said (INSMET), informed that after 2:00 p.m. local time on Wednesday, a line of thunderstorms rapidly developed and crossed over the provinces of Mayabeque and Havana, producing severe storms at some points.

"This system was characterized by heavy rain in a short time and strong linear winds from the southern region for a brief time.

"The Casablanca weather station recorded a maximum wind gust of 125 kilometers per hour from the south-southwest at 3:30 p.m., with sustained winds of up to 90 kilometers per hour and total rainfall of 24.8 millimeters."

In the capital, some trees fell in the Vedado district, and there were power outages in several areas.

According to the Forecast Center, this line of thunderstorms was related to strong atmospheric instability associated with the presence of a barometric trough in the low and middle levels of the troposphere over the Gulf of Mexico, which in the afternoon combined with the strong heating of the day and abundant humidity in the lower levels of the atmosphere.
