Havana, June 25 (RHC) -- The spread of the SARS-COV-2 virus remains at its highest all over Cuba. After the process of 32 380 PCR tests, the island’s health authorities announced the staggering number of 2 464 new infections with COVID-19 and ten deaths over the last 24 hours.

The National Director of Epidemiology, Dr. Francisco Duran, said there were 10 367 positive patients hospitalized, the highest number ever.

With the current update, the Caribbean island now accumulates 177 253 cases and 1219 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic in March last year.

For the first time, two provinces surpassed Havana, for many months the epicenter of the disease. The capital had 391, but Matanzas reported 452 and Camaguey 421.

Meanwhile, Duran said the health intervention goes on with the island’s homegrown vaccine candidates Adbala and Soberana 02. As of June 24, 5 229 916 doses had been administered, and 947 660 people have been fully vaccinated.
