More than 600,000 Cuban students resume face-to-face classes nationwide

Havana, November 8 (RHC)-- More than 612,800 students returned to the classroom on Monday to continue the 2020-2021 school year.

This is the second group of the three that in the vaccination scheme of the Cuban pediatric population already received protection with our anti-COVID-19 vaccine candidates.

Students in 6th grade of primary education, all students of Basic Secondary Education (including those in Special Education), 10th and 11th grade of pre-university, and 1st and 2nd year of Technical Professional Education and Pedagogical Schools are returning to schools.

Ena Elsa Velázquez Cobiella, Minister of Education, recently explained that in Mayabeque, Villa Clara, Camagüey, Las Tunas, Holguín, and Granma provinces, the students of the second group would not start this Monday, but on the 15th, some 700 thousand students, because they started the vaccination a week later than planned and it has been defended that the vaccination scheme be complied with to resume classes in person.

Velazquez noted that after almost a year without attending classes, returning to the classroom is a reason to rejoice, although we cannot lose sight that the pandemic is still lurking and it is necessary to maintain hygienic measures.

She urged the schools, their directors, and teachers, and the family to cooperate so that no contagion occurs within the educational space.
