Cuba's Parliament begins work prior to ordinary session

Havana, December 18 (RHC)-- Deputies to the National Assembly of People's Power of Cuba (Parliament) began their workdays before the Eighth Ordinary Session of the Ninth Legislature, meeting in person for the first time after Covid-19.

 

From this Saturday until December 22, parliamentarians will continue the legislative exercise, analyze the State budget and other economic issues while carrying out acts of control over institutions and officials.

 

As part of the foreseen schedule, during the first days, the Parliament will debate four draft laws arising from the approval of the country's Constitution.

 

The proposals include the Military Courts Law, the Military Criminal Procedure Law, the Law on Territorial and Urban Planning and Land Management, and the Family Code.

 

In addition, the Plan of the Economy and the Budget for 2022 will be presented for the thorough analysis of each parliamentary commission and other issues pertaining to them.

 

According to the Secretary of the Assembly, Homero Acosta, the work schedule for the 20th includes the presentation of the performance of the Ministries of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment, Internal Trade, Agriculture, and Food Industry.

 

On the 21st, the beginning of the plenary session, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy, Alejandro Gil, will summarize economic activities in the nation during the year 2021 and the Plan for 2022.

 

On the same day, the deputies will analyze the four projects submitted for approval.

 

Meanwhile, on December 22, the National Assembly will start the second day of the plenary session with recognition to educators on their day, coinciding with the anniversary of the literacy campaign.

 

Likewise, Prime Minister Manuel Marrero and the government authorities of the province of Sancti Spiritus will report to the Assembly.

 

Among other activities, the agreements and Decree-Laws adopted by the Council of State will be ratified, and the legislative schedule will be updated.
