Beirut, July 5 (RHC)-- Cuba and Lebanon confirmed their mutual interest in continuing to develop the potential of both countries to strengthen and deepen diplomatic and cooperation ties.

This was endorsed during a meeting between the head of the Cuban diplomatic mission in Beirut, Jorge León, and the head of the International Affairs Department of the Lebanese Foreign Ministry's Political Affairs Directorate, Ali Karanouh.

During the exchange, the two diplomats confirmed the willingness to strengthen collaboration relations in different economic, commercial, cultural and scientific sectors, among others.

On the occasion, the Cuban Chargé d'Affaires in Lebanon also handed over a note of appreciation for the traditional coordination and support to the Antillean nation in international forums.

Leon took advantage of the friendly meeting to confirm the Lebanese solidarity with the Cuban people in their confrontation with the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States for more than six decades.

Both countries have maintained relations since June 1960 and at present the collaboration is concentrated on the commercial side in the sale of Cuban tobacco and on the financial side through the Lebanese bank Fransabank, present on the island since 1995. (Source: Prensa Latina
