Havana, Aug 22 (RHC)-- The Nicaraguan government donated to Cuba a new shipment of 35 containers of food destined for the victims of the major fire that hit the western city of Matanzas.

The Nicaraguan vessel Augusto César Sandino arrived at the port of Mariel Monday with a cargo of 29 40-foot and six 20-foot containers, with beans, rice, corn, coffee, and cooking oil.

The ambassador of the Central American country, Alejandro Solis, ratified the commitment of brotherhood and solidarity between both nations and expressed the intention of "always walking together."

Solis also conveyed a "fraternal and revolutionary" greeting from the president and vice-president of Nicaragua, Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo, respectively, to the Caribbean president Miguel Diaz-Canel, the Communist Party of Cuba, and the people of the island.

Cuba's Minister of Domestic Trade, Betsy Díaz, thanked the Latin American nation for its solidarity support and stressed that the gesture comes at a time of deep sorrow for the Cuban people due to the accident at the Matanzas Supertanker Base.

Díaz also underscored that the country is in a complex economic situation caused fundamentally by the commercial and financial blockade of the US government towards our country, the impact of Covid-19, and the complexities of the international economic context.

The minister reiterated Cuba's willingness to continue strengthening the historical ties that unite it with Nicaragua.
