Havana, July 31 (RHC) -– Canada continues to be the prime source of visitors to Cuba, according to a report by the National Statistics and Information Office (ONE), cited by the Cuban business magazine Opciones.

Over 181,260 Canadians visited the island up to June, however the figure was lower than in same month of 2013, when more than 183,850 Canadians came to the island.

According to the office, Canada is followed by the U.K., Germany, Mexico, Spain, Italy, Venezuela, Russia, Argentina and Colombia.

A breakdown of the ONE report reveals that from January to June, the island was the destination of 1,660,055 visitors, a slight increase if compared to similar period of 2013, when the total of tourists was calculated at 1,597,000.

The Office defines a visitor as the person who travels to another country for a period less than a year for purposes such as tourism, business or other personal interests. And this category of visitor is split into tourists and excursionists, being the tourists those persons who travel to a country for a stay between one night and one year. Excursionists are those foreign citizens who travel for a period below 24 hours without including overnight accommodations.
