Cuba will host in 2024 meeting on tourism in the Americas

Havana, Jun 27 (RHC) Cuba has been chosen to host the 69th Regional Commission for the Americas of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) in 2024.

This Tuesday, at the meeting of that body held in the capital of Ecuador, representatives of different nations approved by consensus that the Caribbean nation will host the forum next year.

Cuba’s first deputy minister of Tourism, María del Carmen Orellana, highlighted that in this forum the island will be able to show leaders of the field how the activity has been developed throughout the national territory.

She stressed that at the 2024 meeting, with the presence of UNWTO executives, they will be able to discuss significant issues for the region and for the Antillean nation.

“We also want to promote local development, which really contributes to the communities, and for this we plan to bring experts on these issues who can help us with initiatives and projects to further develop tourism”, the official commented.

The deputy head pointed out that they are working to diversify the offer with the development of new products and experiences that respond to the new global trends and encourage the interaction of travelers with the communities. The purpose is to ensure that the benefits of tourist activity are translated into profits for the population, both in large poles and in small towns.

Likewise, she stressed that the Cuban people and government demonstrate their resilience every day to promote tourism based on strengths such as the security of the destination and the hospitality of the Cuban people, as well as the support of the authorities.

One of the objectives of the Cuban authorities in the field is to diversify the markets that send tourists to the island, and they work to encourage the arrival of visitors from nations of the American continent.

According to Orellana, the number of visitors from this area can grow much more and "with this objective we work to increase air connections and seek alternatives to financial flows, so besieged by the United States and its policy of isolating the Caribbean nation”.

The 68th Regional Commission for the Americas was inaugurated this Tuesday in Quito with the presence of the Ecuadorian President, Guillermo Lasso, and the UNWTO Secretary General, Zurab Pololikashvili.

The meeting will continue on Wednesday with a seminar called Sustainable Investments, a strategy towards competitiveness. (Source: PL)
