Havana, September 4 (RHC) -- Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel today remembered young Italian Fabio Di Celmo, victim of a terrorist attack against the island, orchestrated from the United States.

On his account on X, formerly Twitter, the Cuban leader pointed out that "(Luis) Posada Carriles and other organizers of the act, walked around freely in the United States, whose government, cynically and fallaciously, put Cuba on the list of sponsors of terrorism".

On September 4, 1997, the explosion of an explosive device placed in the lobby of the Copacabana Hotel in Havana took Di Celmo's life, and other facilities such as the Triton and Chateau-Miramar hotels and the La Bodeguita del Medio restaurant suffered material damage as a result of similar actions.

The young man, 32 years old, was one of the victims of the escalation of terror promoted by Posada Carriles and the Cuban American National Foundation, as part of the U.S. strategy aimed at curbing tourism development on the island.

To carry out their plan, the masterminds recruited Raúl Ernesto Cruz, of Salvadoran nationality, who after his arrest by the State Security forces acknowledged his guilt and identified those who trained and paid him to commit these acts.   (Source: Prensa Latina)
