Havana, September 27 (RHC) -- The national coordinator of the Committees for the Defense of the Revolution (CDR), Gerardo Hernández Nordelo, affirmed Wednesday that Cuba's largest mass organization is a bulwark from the neighborhoods and communities.
During the inauguration of the 10th Congress of the CDRs, at the Havana Convention Palace, he expressed that the meeting takes place in a context marked by the intensification of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States, and in the midst of the effects of the economic crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
"To these difficulties faced on a daily basis, we must add the growing hostility of the enemies of the Revolution," said the also Hero of the Republic of Cuba.

Hernández Nordelo evoked Fidel Castro (1926-2016) and the founding moment of the CDR, when he called for it to be an organization in constant advancement and improvement to contribute to the development and defense of the country.
He specified that since December 2021 the Committees undergo a revitalization process to update their functioning and modify certain aspects such as the age of entry - which is now 16 years old -, and change the leadership structures in the zones.
"There are activists in digital social networks and the most outstanding young people are recognized for their actions in neighborhoods and communities," he commented.

The cederista meeting follows up on the agreements of the IX Congress, whose objectives are social work, vigilance and prevention of crime and illegalities, drugs and social indiscipline.
Likewise, attention is paid to the policy of cadres, their preparation and renovation, where the presence of women and young people is becoming more and more noticeable.
For Hernández Nordelo, strengthening the structures from the base will guarantee the efficiency in the ideological, organizational and mobilization work of the CDRs.
The 10th Congress of the Committees for the Defense of the Revolution will meet until tomorrow Thursday, when they will celebrate the 63rd anniversary of their foundation.
