Cubans in several countries celebrated National Culture Day

Havana, Oct 21 (RHC) Diplomatic personnel, Cuban residents, representatives of political forces and the social movement in Brazil celebrated the National Culture Day with the screening of the documentary La gota de agua, by filmmakers Yaimi Ravelo and Iriana Pupo and which reveals the impact of the United States blockade against Cuba.

Before the performance at the theater of the Unitary Central Workers' Center in Havana, Alexis Gonzalo Isaac, coordinator of the José Martí National Association of Cubans Resident in Brazil, recalled that on October 20, 1868, in the Cuban eastern city of Bayamo, Pedro Figueredo, musician, writer, poet and fighter for independence, presented and sang the lyrics of La Bayamesa for the first time.

Also in the historic center of Bogotá, to the rhythm of traditional music in a meeting at the Vedado Bar restaurant, Cuban ambassador Javier Caamaño, members of the state mission, the Association of Cuban Residents in Colombia, the Colombian Movement of Solidarity with Cuba, congressmen and political leaders, participated in the tribute to the birth of the nation.

Likewise in Brussels, Belgium, the celebrations for the day of Cuban culture began with a song of peace in the capital commune of Saint-Gilles, where its emblematic “Water Bearer” dressed in the typical Cuban attire.

In all cases, it was remembered that Cuba celebrates its Culture Day every October 20 in memory of that day in 1868, when the people sang for the first time the notes of La Bayamesa, which became the National Anthem and marked the birth and identity of the Cuban nation.
