Governor of Santiago de Cuba renders account of her term in office

Havana, December 23 (RHC) -- In the presence of Manuel Marrero Cruz, Prime Minister of the Republic, Beatriz Johnson, governor of Santiago de Cuba, acknowledged the results of the territory, despite the effects of the blockade and the impact of the global economic crisis on production and service processes.

While giving an account of her administration before the Provincial Council of Government, in the Salón de los Vitrales, in this city, she affirmed that the work system was characterized for being participative and of collegiate direction, based on the application of science, technology and innovation, social communication, informatization and attention to priority sectors of society.  

She noted that the materialization of the improvement of commerce and gastronomy was evidenced in the constitution of improved Basic Business Units and in the bidding process of establishments, although the results of the electronic payment operations, through the different payment gateways, are still discreet.

This year was significant in the progress of the cultural, sports and recreational development programs, through the combination of activities that favored the elevation of the people's spirituality,  she said.

The governor of Santiago de Cuba said that special attention was paid to the eradication of leaks, obstructions and the reduction of the water cycle, while the housing plan in the province needs further follow-up.

Johnson highlighted the progress in the transformation of neighborhoods and communities with the structural improvement of basic cells, roads, educational and health sites, as well as in the provision of social assistance to families in vulnerable situations, mothers with more than three children, senior citizens, and in the creation of new sites for the care of grandparents and children's homes.

Prioritizing the development of the sugar industry and livestock, increasing the sowing of various crops, the adequate use of the land and the application of agro-ecological techniques, with the objective of reducing imports, guaranteeing food sovereignty and nutritional education, became the strategic axis of the government's management, he said.

According to the Prime Minister, Beatriz Johnson must continue working on the transformation of the results related to sugar cane production and housing policy, vital sectors in the economic and social development of the territory and the country.
