Havana, January 30 (RHC) -- Cuba ratified its commitment to support peace, independence, the right to self-determination and the sovereignty of the region over its natural resources.

This was stated by the member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cuba, Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, as he recalled the ten years of the Proclamation of Latin America and the Caribbean as a Zone of Peace.

That position, approved at the II Summit of Celac, in Havana, the first month of 2014, has contributed to the consolidation of unity and agreement of the member countries for the welfare of the peoples of the region, and emphasized the unrestricted respect for the purposes and principles of the Charter of the United Nations and International Law, the peaceful settlement of disputes, and the prohibition of the use and threat of the use of force.

Today, when neither social movements nor leftist parties are a threat to peace, but rather the US empire's desire for power over the region, this document is even more powerful and valid, for the sake of development and in defense of the peoples. It is based on the principle of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro Ruz, that "the struggle for peace means fighting to save humanity". (Source: Granma)
