Havana, February 25 (RHC) -- The president of the National Assembly of People's Power of Cuba (Parliament), Esteban Lazo Hernández, posthumously presented the José Martí National Order to Namibian President Hage G. Geingob in Windhoek on Sunday.

In a ceremony held at the State House of the African nation, the also member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) and president of the Council of State explained that by virtue of presidential decree no. 452, of July 1, 2022, the Cuban dignitary, Miguel Díaz-Canel, awarded the highest distinction to the recently deceased head of state.

Lazo Hernández said he was honoured to be able to present the decoration to Geingob's wife, Monica Geingos, on behalf of the PCC, the State, the Government and the people of the island.

He stressed that the history that united the Namibian president with Cuba, conferred on him the qualification of a close friend; "hence he was worthy of the two most important decorations awarded by the Republic of Cuba", he underlined.

The parliamentary leader acknowledged Geingob's contribution to the strengthening and expansion of bilateral relations, as well as his extraordinary contributions to peace and humanity. (Source: Prensa Latina)
