Cuban foreign minister arrives in Russia for BRICS Plus Ministerial Council

Moscow, June 10 (RHC)-- The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cuba, Bruno Rodríguez, arrived in Moscow this Sunday to participate in the meeting of the BRICS Plus Ministerial Council, at the invitation of his Russian counterpart, Sergei Lavrov.

Upon his arrival at the Nizhny Novgorod-Strigino International Airport, the Cuban Foreign Minister and the delegation accompanying him were received by the Vice President of the Government of the region Dmitry Starosin and the Vice Governor of the city of the same name Petr Bannikov, among other authorities.

At the meeting that will take place on the 10th and 11th, the head of Cuban diplomacy will hold bilateral meetings with his counterparts from several countries such as Belarus, Egypt, Brazil and Türkiye, with the aim of analyzing the state of the bilateral relations.

Likewise, Rodríguez will speak at the expanded session of the Ministerial Council where the 10 member states of the group (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, United Arab Emirates, Ethiopia and Iran) will be present, as well as about one twenty heads of foreign policy departments from like-minded countries, which represent regional interaction formats.

The meeting, in the opinion of the hosts, will be the appropriate platform for the exchange of opinions on current issues on the world agenda, including in the context of joint efforts to strengthen true multilateralism in international relations.

The ministers will discuss current regional issues, interaction between the BRICS countries within the framework of the association and on other platforms, as well as the prospects for multifaceted cooperation in the year of Russia's presidency of the bloc in three main areas: politics and security, economy and finance and humanitarian relations.

At the end of the meeting, the Cuban foreign minister will travel to Moscow to complete an official visit where he will be received by the head of Russian diplomacy on June 12, in order to analyze a range of issues regarding the deepening of the bilateral association in this field. political, commercial, economic and scientific-technical.

Rodríguez arrived in the Eurasian giant after completing an official visit to China where he exchanged with several authorities from the Asian country, including his Chinese counterpart, Wang Yi, with whom he spoke about the excellent state of ties and the strong historical ties of brotherhood and friendship between both nations.

Cuba's top diplomat is accompanied by the Cuban ambassador to Russia, Julio Garmendía, the head of the Foreign Minister's Secretariat, Nelson Tamayo, the senior specialist of the Directorate of Europe and Canada, Mercedes Martínez and the specialist of the Directorate of Multilateral Political Affairs Nadiezda Arredondo .
