Dominican youths receive scholarships to study in Cuba

Havana, August 21 (RHC) Nine young people from Dominica have received scholarships to study at Cuban universities as part of the cooperation between the two countries in education and other areas of mutual interest.

The scholarships were presented during an official ceremony led by the country's Minister of Education, Octavia Alfred, together with Havana's Ambassador to Roseau, Miguel Fraga.

Alfred thanked Cuba for its continuous support to Dominica in both the educational and health sectors, after urging the scholarship recipients to take advantage of the opportunity to improve themselves and contribute to the progress of their homeland.

For his part, Fraga considered the cooperation between the two Caribbean nations as historic, recalling that cooperation in the educational sector dates back to 1979, long before the establishment of diplomatic relations.

He pointed out that more than 400 students from Dominica have graduated from Cuban institutions, highlighting the depth and strength of the ties between Havana and Roseau.

Last May, the two countries celebrated the 28th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations based on friendship and multi-sectoral cooperation (source: Prensa Latina)
