Havana, February 2 (RHC)-- Cuba is getting ready for mid-term elections to take place on April 19th. The Council of State agreed in September 2014 to create and train working commissions in every province to guarantee the organization and logistics needed for the process, according to an article in the daily newspaper Granma.

Experts are working to secure sound communications, transportation, computer science security, and other resources such as models, pens, pencils, paper, national symbols, ballot boxes, murals and computers.

“We are in better shape to have the elections,” stated Alina Balseiro, president of the National Electoral Commission (CEN by its acronym in Spanish) and added that “Article No. 18 of the Electoral Law states that the organizations of the State's Central Administration (Administración Central del Estado) and the rest of the organizations and its officials are required to support the electoral commissions in the exercise of their duties according to the law.”

The Computer Science University (UCI) has designed a new software to be used up to the municipal level and to support each electoral step to guarantee top data security and reliability.

“The computer system helps us authenticate the process,” said Balseiro. “We signed a contract with the Joven Club de Computación (Young Club of Computer Science) to use its computer operators and computer technology systems in the elections,” she added.

The election of candidates will take place from February 24th to March 25th and the lists of voters will be made public on March 16th and the 17th.
