Ankara, February 9 (RHC) -– The Turkish president's visit to Cuba will have a positive impact on relations between the two countries, the Cuban Ambassador to Turkey told the Anadolu News Agency.

"We have historical expectations from this visit, which is the first in our bilateral relations," Alberto Gonzales Casals said in an interview by the Ankara news agency.

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his delegation are paying a three-day official visit to Colombia, Cuba and Mexico.

Cuba's ambassador to Turkey said: “Another important expectation is to increase bilateral economic relations and business between the two countries.” Casals said Turkey and Cuba are also expected to sign a cultural agreement.

“Cuban culture is very well-known in Turkey and Turkish culture is renowned in Cuba. We also have much to develop in tourism," said Casals. This is the second visit of a Turkish high level delegation to Latin American countries, with the first taking place in 1995.

Erdogan said Sunday before departing from Istanbul that this will be the first visit of a Turkish president to Colombia, Cuba and Mexico.

Erdogan's talks during the visits will focus on regional and international developments, bilateral relations and signing cooperation agreements in different fields.
